Discover the Cat Café

Nestled in the heart of Reykjavik at Bergstaðastræti 10A, Kattakaffihúsið stands as Iceland's first-ever cat café!

Since its grand opening on March 1, 2018, Kattakaffihúsið has offered a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can unwind, savor delicious food, and interact with adorable feline residents.

A Global Phenomenon

The concept of cat cafés originated in Taiwan in 1998 and has since gained immense popularity across the globe, particularly in Asia. In recent years, cat cafés have made their way to the USA, Canada, and Europe, delighting cat lovers worldwide.

Iceland’s very own Kattakaffihúsið brings this delightful experience to the Nordic nation, combining the charm of a café with the joy of spending time with cats.

More Than Just a Café

At Kattakaffihúsið, the well-being of the cats is paramount. All the resident cats are up for adoption, living at the café while they await their forever homes. The environment is carefully designed to ensure their safety and comfort, making them feel right at home.

The café’s policies and setup are tailored to meet the needs of the cats, ensuring a harmonious atmosphere for both the feline inhabitants and the visitors.

Meet the Visionaries

Gígja Sara Björnsson and Ragnheidur Birgisdóttir, the passionate founders and owners of Kattakaffihúsið, have been friends for many years. Their shared dream of creating a space where they could enjoy coffee and help cats in need wich led to the creation of Kattakaffihúsið. Inspired by the global cat café trend, they envisioned a place in Iceland where cats and humans could harmoniously coexist.

In 2016, their vision began to take shape. After finding the perfect location and meticulously planning their venture, Gígja and Ragnheidur brought their dream to life.
