What is BREEAM?
BREEAM, which stands for "Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method," is an internationally recognized certification system from Britain. It serves as an environmental assessment tool designed to minimize the environmental impact of structures. To simplify: BREEAM measures and specifies the sustainability performance of buildings. Utilizing this framework aids us in meeting our sustainability objectives and achieving long-term, optimal outcomes.
How does BREEAM work?
BREEAM assesses the performance of a structure by applying recognized metrics to established criteria. This evaluation encompasses the building's specification, design, construction, and usage. The metrics span various categories, from energy efficiency to ecological impact, with a focus on the most critical aspects such as reducing carbon emissions, implementing low-impact designs, adapting to climate change, and preserving ecological value and biodiversity.
BREEAM Framework
When evaluating a project using BREEAM, several key factors must be considered:
- Sustainability
- Community
- Economy
- Environment
By integrating these key factors early in the project using the BREEAM framework, you can reduce life cycle costs, enhance asset value, improve user experience and health, support corporate image and CSR goals, and mitigate risks.
